The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park has been around, essentially, forever.  It was founded in 1893.  To get their whole history check out their website.  And better yet, visit the park.  We did a little over a year ago and it is astounding.   So much so that when I left I had taken well over 100 photographs which will be shown in more than one issue on this blog site.  Of course I was expecting to see a few alligators but what surprised me was the number of alligators there which were hundreds upon hundreds. And even more surprising was the number of birds there - literally hundreds upon hundreds of birds as well.

Old Saybrook, Connecticut

Old Saybrook is a relatively small town in the southern part of the state.  It is next to the point where the Connecticut River empties into Long Island Sound.  It's population is a little over 10,000.  The majority of the images shown below were taken between 30 to 50 years ago.

 Beebe's Home Theater

The theater no longer exists.  The owner passed away and the house was sold.  Fred Beebe owned a business in town.  He loved movies thus he built his own theater and frequently invited the towns residents for a pleasant evening watching first rate movies that he had acquired.

Every year in July the town held a huge arts & crafts fair on their main drag through the center of town.

The town also celebrated July 4th with a parade through the center of town.

Years ago a big deal was the dedication ceremony for the opening of their brand new up to date firehouse.

A very busy area was in and around Long Island Sound which features a marina, restaurants and sea gulls galore and their lighthouse.

Some of the well to do residents had some awesome views from their homes.

In honor of their fallen soldiers & sailors is their War Memorial.

And of course - my favorite part of the town - Fenwick Golf Course.  A nine hole facility  snuggled up against the Sound in the Fenwick section of Old Saybrook.  And just a few yards away from one of the courses greens was noted actress Katherine Hepburn's house whose frequent guest was fellow actor  Spencer Tracy.  I have had the pleasure of playing Fenwick GC on several occasions.
