Golf Scorecard History 101, England - Set #8

Golf Scorecard History 101, England
Set #8
(Oaks GC to Oratory School GC)

United Kingdom Parliament (The House of Lords and House of Commons)

Who were the best golfers ever from England?   Hard to say but my best picks are the following three.

Harry Vardon - It is Harry Vardon who pioneered accurate and reliable hitting techniques that are still the basis of the modern golf swing. Vardon began playing golf desultorily while working as a manservant for an affluent amateur golfer on the island of Jersey. Realizing both his own talent and the money that could be made in the game, he turned professional at age 20. He subsequently achieved dominance in the sport, winning the Open Championship  in 1896, 1898, 1899, 1903, 1911, amd 1914.  The Vardon Trophy, named for him, is awarded annually by the Professional Golfers Association of America to the professional with the best scoring average.

Lee Westwood -  Noted for his consistency, Westwood is one of the few golfers who has won tournaments on five continents – Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. Westwood has also won tournaments in four decades, the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. He also was named European Golfer of the year  named for the 1998, 2000, 2009 and 2020 seasons.

Sir Nick Faldo -  He was ranked No. 1 on the Official World Golf Rankings for a total of 97 weeks. His 41 professional wins include 30 victories on the European Tour and six major championships i.e.; three Open Championships and three Masters.

From my England scorecard collection I've selected fifty for this issue.   See my note following the last card.

Editors Note: I'm not particularly happy with the above scorecard images.  I thought I would like to have more scorecard data to show but because of the way scorecards are printed half the data ends up being either sideways or upside - down.  On future scorecard scans you likely will see more data on some scorecards but you will not thave to look sideways (or stand on your head) to see what's been printed on it.

Once again some photographs taken of relatives approximately 40 years before I was born. These were taken at and/or near Niagara Falls in the late 1890's.
