Windsor is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States.   It was the first English settlement within the state. It borders Hartford, CT. which is the states capital. At one point in time there was a golf course in town originally named Millbrook GC.  It was eventually purchased by another company and renamed but then shortly went out of business.  What bugged me was that the town never took it over.

Here are a few (very few) highlights of the town:

 Interesting.  This sign infers Windsor was the first Connecticut town.  Wethersfield, CT. wishes to differ, saying they were first.

The Loomis Chaffee School is one of the town;s highlights.  An excellent campus and very expensive

 

 

 

A highlight of the town was a gathering of Tibeton Monks constructing a Mandala Sand Painting.  At the end of the process the artwork is destroyed and the sand was dumped into a lake

 Loomis Chaffee School

 Windsor, Connecticut

A few years ago a group of Tibetan monks visited the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut to construct a Mandala Sand Painting.  It was a three day event.  I became so enthralled with the process that I ended up attending all three days to photograph the process.  The results are shown below.

A Mandala Sand Painting is a Tibetan Buddhist tradition involving the creation and destruction of mandalas made from colored sand. A sand mandala is ritualistically dismantled once it has been completed and its accompanying ceremonies and viewing are finished to symbolize the Buddhist doctrinal belief in the transitory nature of material life.

Editors Note:  People who attended on the final day were given a tiny vial of the sand.
