For my first ever trip to Las Vegas & Nevada I tried to get a room at the Desert Inn.  I was planning on playing the Desert Inn Country Club.  At that time it was by far the best course in the area.  Unfortunately the hotel was booked solid.  As it turned out I ticked off in going to a different hotel and playing a different golf course.  Years later the Desert inn course was torn up and a new gem and very expensive course took its place.
