I've had the privilege of visiting Italy while serving in the Navy. My ports of call were Naples in which I spent a few days and Sicily. Sicily was not so hot. The only people allowed off the ship were those that had relatives who lived there and thus be visited. My only other experience was to spend a few hours in a Rome airport while enroute to Greece.
